On 25 April 2008 NIIR FSUE held a gala opening ceremony for the first in East Europe Sun Microsystems Competence Center in high-performance computing.
Mr. S.A. Malyanov, Deputy Director, Federal Communications Agency, noted the historic significance of the event – the Sun Microsystems Competence Center in high-performance computing opened in NIIR is the only one of the kind in East Europe and the first one in Russia.

On 18 July 2007 NIIR FSUE hosted a Round Table, which was an extended meeting of the Working Group of the Info-Communications Union concerning the implementation of mobile television (Cell-TV).
The focus of discussions centered on the implementation of mobile TV in the world and in Russia.
